This is an attempt to consolidate our timeline and help our understanding of the Saki universe. This will mainly focus on the national tournament wherein our grasp of the timeline is a bit confused.
I even made a summary for you guys: Click the image!
I’ve had this theory for quite sometime now. I’m just saving it here for posterity.
For those who are wondering what this is about, this will contain spoiler for Side-B Quarterfinals Block C so those who want to watch Saki Season 2 with unspoiled eyes; stay away from this post.
I recently came across an old drama CD. And it has a very interesting snippet about Saki and Teru. Mainly, the track gives us a rough timeline on the events surrounding the family. Though, there is some doubt on its status as canon. (The Drama CD was published before the anime was even shown.) Its still an official release so assuming no retcon, I will try to pierce the sequence of events leading to the rift.
As the first monster we met on the series, Koromo will always have a place in my heart. She was the final boss of last season and I must say she played her part marvelously. But, even if she was last season’s boss, Koromo still plays an important part in the continuing story – mostly as a measuring stick for other players. But, to have an accurate measuring stick, one must first understand Koromo and how her power work. This post will attempt to explain that.

~Side Story 01 ~
There was silence in the stadium, everyone cannot believe their eyes.
“The Winner of the match and our Current Reigning Champion – Miyanaga Teru.”
The moment the referee announced the winner, the whole stadium descended into a state of pandemonium. The ones who lost their winnings were crying that the fight was rigged. Others were laughing in satisfaction at the huge killing they made. The competitors were no better. Various fighters were crowing about the downfall of their former bitterest adversary, while a select few were glaring daggers at the red head for defeating said former champion.

Disclaimer : No I don’t own Saki and never will. I’m just killing time by borrowing Ritz-sensei’s characters.

I don’t know what drew me to Saki since at first glance I thought of it as a pleasant time waster. But, after a few episodes this unassuming anime got my complete devotion. And after a few years and several re-watch of the series later – I still manage to find something new about it that manages to capture me.
The new thing I managed to notice about Saki is the awesome battle music. It may seem a bit generic at first glance but when you go with the context that Saki anime and manga provides – its just perfect.
First, I’ll review the awesome OST of the Miyanaga siblings. They are both very very strong players but their way of playing is drastically different and it reflects on their Monster theme. Second, their character theme is also noticeably very different.
