Lately, I’ve developed a keen interest in etymology and I thought let’s go look at the meaning of the names for fun . I’ll be the first to admit that I’m a beginner here and I will probably make a lot of mistakes feel free to point it out in the comment section.
First would be Saki (咲). The title of our show and of course the protagonist. ^^
Where the forgotten gathers…
In front of a suburban house, a tearful goodbye was taking place.
“Saki, this is temporary. We’re not actually leaving you. You can always call us on the phone. I got one installed yesterday remember. Besides, we’re just a few train rides away. I’m expecting several visits.” At this the elder woman’s face twisted, “Even if you have to be accompanied by that useless man.”
For Saki, her mother’s soothing words did nothing to dispel her torrent of tears. It just made her try to bury herself in her warm embrace, not knowing if it will be the last time she can do so. “… This is my fault…” The younger girl sniffled.
“No, its not.” Her mother’s stern voice rebuked. “That man and I just can’t keep living with each other anymore. This is just the consequence of that. It is not your fault.”
“Teru was just stressed honey. I’m sure she didn’t mean it. She loves you.”
That was the first night Saki dreamt of the space wherein there was no light.
Oohoshi Awai has been a great source of speculation ever since she aired. This is mostly because she has long been suspected to be the “heavy” of the upcoming match in the long awaited finals of the team tournament. The one who will function as the Koromo for Saki in the Nationals. She was to be the second coming of Teru and Saki’s Final boss.
And as we look onto Side-A’s semifinal captain match with expectant eyes. We find that our hopes were sadly betrayed.
I was struck by inspiration and freetime yesterday. So I recorded one of my game in the Saki psp.
This is an attempt to consolidate our timeline and help our understanding of the Saki universe. This will mainly focus on the national tournament wherein our grasp of the timeline is a bit confused.
I even made a summary for you guys: Click the image!
I’ve had this theory for quite sometime now. I’m just saving it here for posterity.
For those who are wondering what this is about, this will contain spoiler for Side-B Quarterfinals Block C so those who want to watch Saki Season 2 with unspoiled eyes; stay away from this post.
I recently came across an old drama CD. And it has a very interesting snippet about Saki and Teru. Mainly, the track gives us a rough timeline on the events surrounding the family. Though, there is some doubt on its status as canon. (The Drama CD was published before the anime was even shown.) Its still an official release so assuming no retcon, I will try to pierce the sequence of events leading to the rift.
As the first monster we met on the series, Koromo will always have a place in my heart. She was the final boss of last season and I must say she played her part marvelously. But, even if she was last season’s boss, Koromo still plays an important part in the continuing story – mostly as a measuring stick for other players. But, to have an accurate measuring stick, one must first understand Koromo and how her power work. This post will attempt to explain that.

~Side Story 01 ~
There was silence in the stadium, everyone cannot believe their eyes.
“The Winner of the match and our Current Reigning Champion – Miyanaga Teru.”
The moment the referee announced the winner, the whole stadium descended into a state of pandemonium. The ones who lost their winnings were crying that the fight was rigged. Others were laughing in satisfaction at the huge killing they made. The competitors were no better. Various fighters were crowing about the downfall of their former bitterest adversary, while a select few were glaring daggers at the red head for defeating said former champion.
